The first one should be extraordinary, or at least special in some way. Although I'm a tad late, I'm excited to participate in The First Book of the Year, hosted by Sheila from Book Journey, for the second consecutive year. After giving it some thought, I chose to start my reading year with Paradise Drive by Rebecca Foust. Press 53 Poetry series editor Tom Lombardo calls Paradise Drive "a collection of irony and metaphor, metonymy and synecdoche, with a dose of synesthesia" in the introduction. That sounds like a great way to "kick-start" my 2016 reading! I'm participating in the book tour for this collection of contemporary sonnets with Poetic Book Tours, and my review of it will post later this month. Today I began the book and have read several of the poems, which are quite insightful and eloquent. I'm pictured above with the book, and with my darling dog, Daisy; I've included an additional photo of the book as well.
Happy New Year to all! What is your first book of 2016? Your comments are welcomed.
Sounds like you chose a great first read! I hope you enjoy it and am looking forward to your thoughts when you finish. Happy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you love it. You and your reading buddy are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words, Kathy. Wishing you and your family all the best in 2016!
DeleteSounds like a great choice for your first week. I love the pic- adorable pup too.
ReplyDeleteI really like this first book of the year concept.
ReplyDeleteIt is neat that you stated with a poetry book.
I love your dog.
Happy reading in 2016 Suko!
What a lovely photograph and so nice that you have included Daisy.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice and I love the picture!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great photo of you and Daisy. Thanks for sharing it. I hope you love your first book of the year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! I also love that Daisy is in the picture. I just posted my first review of the year, Christmas Treasury by Louisa May Alcott, but my first book of the year is What She Knew by Gily MacMillan. It was so good that I couldn't put it down and read the entire book over the past few days! Hopefully I get my review up sometime this week!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan, what a cute pic of you and Daisy!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Paradise Drive, it sounds like a nice collection of poetry.
Hope you enjoy it and love the beautiful photo.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to read books that challenge you. I like your pic with you and your dog!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to challenge myself at the beginning of the New Year by reading a poetry collection. I hope to use my time wisely in 2016, and to read and post more often. Thank you all for stopping by, and for the very nice comments!
ReplyDeleteMy first book was a kids book. I'm on book 6 for the year, I think.
